Andreas Osiander

Andreas Osiander was born in Bonn, Germany, in 1962. He started his academic career in 1980, studying political science, history and economics at T|bingen University. From 1982 to 1985 he studied international relations and economics at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris. He continued his studies in international relations at Oxford University, earning his D.Phil. from Oxford in 1991.

He has held the position of junior research fellow at Balliol College, Oxford, and the Wissenschaftlicher Assistant at Humboldt University in Berlin from 1992 to 1998.

Osiander is the author of The States System of Europe, 1640-1990: Peacemaking and the Conditions of International Stability and has written articles for several publications, including Law and State, Politische Vierteljahresschrift and International Studies Quarterly.

Osiander is currently at Humboldt University, Berlin. He is working on a book-length study of the evolution of Western civilisation and its social and political macrosystems, from the ancient world to the industrial age.
