Helen Benedict
Helen Benedict, the daughter of anthropologists, was born and brought up in England and on various islands in the Indian Ocean. She is the author of two previous novels, Bad Angel (Dutton) and A World Like This (Dutton), and four works of nonfiction, including Portraits in Print (Columbia University Press) and Virgin or Vamp: How the Press Covers Sex Crimes (Oxford University Press). This new novel, The Sailor's Wife, just out from Zoland Books, is her third novel and seventh book. Benedict is an associate professor at the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University.
