Karen C. Altfest

Karen Caplan Altfest, M.A., Ph.D., CFP is Vice President of L.J. Altfest & Co., Inc., a fee-only financial planning and investment management firm in New York City. She previously was coordinator of the Certified Financial Planner program, a professional program for financial planners, which she originated at Pace University in White Plains, New York.

Dr. Altfest teaches "On Your Own Financially" and "Financial Savvy for Women" at the New School University in New York City, where she is director of the Financial Planning and Investments Program. Dr. Altfest is a board member of the New York Society of the Financial Planning Association and is President of the Northeast Region of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors. Her book, Lew Altfest Answers Almost All Your Questions About Money, published by McGraw-Hill, was named one of the best financial planning books by Money magazine. Her new book, Keeping Clients for Life, will be published by Wiley in Spring 2001.

Dr. Altfest frequently speaks about women and money and conducts educational seminars for recent widows. She has appeared on CNBC's "Power Lunch," "Money Talk," and "Money Tonight," NBC's "Nightly News," CNN-FN, WBIS Morning Show, and CBS "This Morning" and has recently been interviewed by The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Money, Bottom Line, Reader's Digest, New York Daily News, Fortune, Smart Money, Financial Planning, Working Woman, Family Money, Registered Investment Advisor, and the Los Angeles Times. Worth magazine named her one of the Best Financial Advisers in the United States in 1996, 1997 and 1998. She has been named one of the 120 Best Financial Advisers by Medical Economics and was named "Planner of the Month" by Mutual Funds magazine in June 2000.
