R. Scott Appleby
R. Scott Appleby is professor of history and director of the Joan B. Kroc
Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame.
He is the editor of Spokesmen for the Despised: Fundamentalist Leaders of
the Middle East, (University of Chicago Press, 1997) co-editor (with
Martin E. Marty) of the five volumes of the Fundamentalism Project
(University of Chicago Press, 1991-95) and the author of The Ambivalence
of the Sacred: Religion, Violence and Reconciliation (Rowman &
Littlefield).
