Donald M. Anderson is a senior scientist in the Biology Department of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Don Anderson has studied red tides and toxic algae for several decades. These organisms are responsible for a wide range of impacts to fish, shellfish and recreational resources in coastal waters. His research ranges from molecular and cellular studies of toxin genetics and regulation to the large-scale oceanography and ecology of the "blooms" of these micro-organisms. He is also heavily involved in national and international program development for research and training on red tides, marine biotoxins and harmful algae. He serves as the director of the US National Office for Marine Biotoxins and Harmful Algae, located at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Dr. Anderson is the author or co-author of over 130 scientific papers and 7 books.
