Eliminating America's Democratic Deficit

In neglecting American public education we have betrayed the legacy of the founding fathers and are shortchanging democracy, argues Benjamin Barber, the Walt Whitman Professor of Political Science at Rutgers University. Gun violence, advertising in the classroom, and the widening gap between rich and poor are symptoms of a democratic deficit in America. In this passionate talk, Barber proposed teaching "the arts of liberty," such as responsibility, listening and empowerment, to strengthen American democracy.
