Derek Attridge is the author or editor of 12 books, on topics that include James Joyce, the forms of poetry, South African writing, and literary theory. Many of these have been published by Cambridge University Press, including Semicolonial Joyce (edited with Marjorie Howes, 2000), Joyce Effects (2000), Writing South Africa (1998), and Poetic Rhythm: An Introduction (1995). Born in South Africa, he has taught in universities in England, Scotland, France, and the United States. He is currently Leverhulme Research Professor of English at the University of York, and Distinguished Visiting Professor in English at Rutgers University, New Jersey.
