| Opening Up Gu Gan's bold distortion of the character for 'opening' (kai) shows that China's formerly closed door has been abruptly opened by the reforms. Through the gap one can see an old house, still in good order. A bird of peace perches on it. Gu Gan's message is that even with the door open, all has remained well in China. China has nothing to fear from becoming closely linked with the rest of the world. |
