Ambiguity
The meaning of Han Yu's calligraphy is sometimes ambiguous. At one level, his 'Falling Leaves' (1993) simply evokes
autumn in China's ancient capital of Chang-an (now Xi'an):
The West wind blows, the water flows.
The leaves fall over Chang'an.
It can also be read as being about the end of a dynasty or some possible future event.
