We shall overcome
In 1975, Lin wrote out this poem
by Du Mu (803-852) for a friend.
The last line reflects the belief of those who had survived the terrible 'winter'
of the Cultural Revolution that they
would prevail:
I stop my carriage to admire the maple
grove at dusk,
Whose frozen leaves are redder than the flowers of early spring.
