Triumphal Procession
Mr. J. K. Wingfield Digby, Sherborne Castle
Elizabeth going to procession in Blackfriars in 1600. This painting was produced around 1601. Elizabeth was close to the end of her life and a youthful mask was still being used to represent her face. This canvas is attributed to Robert Peake and depicts Elizabeth borne aloft wearing a white dress studded with jewels. All the men, the courtiers paying obeisance, in the image are bareheaded in homage to her royalty.
