Rozina Visram was born in Zanzibar and educated at Makerere University College in Kampala, Edinburgh University and London University. Visram has previously worked as a school teacher and a higher education lecturer, and has written several books for schools. Visram is author of the pioneering Ayahs, Lascars and Princes (Pluto Press, 1986) and the recently published Asians in Britain: 400 Years of History (Pluto Press, 2002).
