Johnson Chair in International Affairs and Middle East Studies at Sarah Lawrence College. He was educated at Oxford University and at the London School of Economics and has previously been a research fellow at Harvard University and Princeton University. He is the author of The Superpowers and the Middle East: Regional and International Politics, and his articles have appeared in several of the most prestigious journals in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. Gerges is researching a follow-up book, tentatively entitled The Islamists and the West: Ideology Versus Pragmatism?
