Lemon Shark

The lemon shark Negaprion brevirostris gets its name from the hint of yellow in the colour of its skin. It is a temperate and tropical, shallow-water species, stoutly built and armed with narrow, fish-grabbing teeth. It grows to a maximum of 3.4 m (11 ft) long, and can be recognised by its two dorsal fins of almost equal size.

The lemon shark feeds mainly at night on fish, squid, crustaceans and even seabirds, and is found around docks, creeks, estuaries and shallow-water bays in the western Atlantic, off the coast of West Africa and in the eastern Pacific. During the day it might be seen 'resting' on the shallow sea bed, pumping water over its gills.
