Robert Ellrodt was a professor at the Sorbonne from 1961-66 and a professor and President of the Sorbonne Nouvelle until 1991. He is the author of Neoplatonism in the Poetry of Spenser (1960), the classic 3-volume study Les poètes métaphysiques anglais (1960), John Donne, Poésie (1993) and, most recently, of Seven Metaphysical Poets: A Structural Study of the Unchanging Self (2000). His translation of the Poems and Sonnets of Shakespeare, with Introduction and notes, appears during 2002 in Shakespeare: Oeuvres complètes, published by Laffont.
