Malachi Beit-Arié is Ludwig Jesselson Professor of Codicology and Palaeography at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Director of the Hebrew Palaeography Project of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. He was Director of the Jewish National and University Library from 1979 to 1990. His books include Hebrew Codicology, Hebrew Manuscripts of East and West and The Makings of the Medieval Hebrew Book.
