Sefer Beriah
by Nathan the Prophet of Gaza
(MS, Ottoman empire, c. 1700).
The Book of Creation, a system of messianic kabbalah, was the magnum opus of the chief theoretician and ever-loyal proponent of Shabbetai Tsevi. Written by Nathan after Shabbetai's ostensible defection to Islam, when most Jews no longer regarded him as the messiah but as a charlatan, the book circulated in manuscript only.
