iosphere 2 Center in Oracle, Arizona--Columbia's "Western" campus--has become a thriving center of research and educational activity on topics ranging from biodiversity, to earth and environmental sciences, to astronomy. The Biosphere 2 Center (www.bio2.edu/index.html) website offers visitors a virtual tour of the center's massive three-acre sealed glass "laboratory," which houses habitats ranging from a coral reef to high desert. Panoramic 360-degree images from IPIX let users stand inside most of the habitats, or biomes--usually off-limits to visitors--and control where they want to look. |

The site has clear explanations of many of the research projects currently happening there, a calendar of events and lectures held on campus, photo galleries, and information for undergraduates interested in taking courses. There are also discussion groups and a section on the site for K-12 students, encouraging them to learn about environmental issues and the earth. |
