LONGBOW: A fast-shooting long-range weapon used by foot soldiers, suitable for massed atack. Introduced in the late thirteenth century.
CROSSBOW: Rose to prominence in the twelfth century. It consisted of a short, heavy bow, powerfully sprung and attached at right angles to a stock, which performed the same function as the arm of the longbow archer.
MOTTE: A mound forming the site of a castle or camp.
TREBUCHET: A large sling used in medieval siege warfare to hurl missiles.
GAMBESON: A quilted tunic, worn by the medieval warrior as defensive armour.
