Shifting alliances: Muslim Izedin Spago and Catholic-Croat Vlado Bogicevic buried side by side in a cemetary on Liska Street in Croat-controlled west Mostar. Both died resisting a Serbian assault on the city in 1992. A year later, the Muslims and Croats were fighting each other. When in February 1997, families of Muslims buried in the cemetery attempted to visit the graves, they were attacked by a Croat mob including police officers. One person was killed and 20 others injured.
