| Torah scroll and pointer, Livorno, eighteenth century. A Sefer torah (scroll of the Torah), as used for the public reading of the Torah in synagogues. The Hebrew text, without any vowel signs or other additions, is written by hand on parchment in the traditional way. The silver pointer is used to keep the place and to avoid touching the parchment. This scroll is open at the mid-point of the Torah, in Leviticus chapter 8. |
