EDITOR'S INTRODUCTION | Amy HeckerlingBefore writing and directing Clueless (1995), a modern adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma set in Beverly Hills, Amy Heckerling (right) was probably best known as the director of the teenage classic Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

After the release of Clueless, Heckerling--a 1974 graduate of the American Film Institute (AFI)--returned to campus to participate in a Harold Lloyd Master Seminar, during which she discussed her career with AFI's director and CEO, Jean Firstenberg, and conservatory fellows.

An edited transcript of Amy Heckerling's 1995 discussion of her career as a writer, director and producer.
