Map September 11: Before and After is a special learning center that offers the latest scholarship and research from experts at leading academic institutions from the Fathom consortium. This learning center will teach you about some of the complex issues related to terrorism, the international political landscape and the history of religious extremism and political violence. One year after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Fathom has expanded and updated the learning center with dozens of new features and seminars on past and present regions in conflict.

Explore perspectives on the role of media in shaping public understanding of major world events--from war reporting and cultural events to terrorist activities--with Columbia University scholars and visiting speakers, including ABC News President David Westin and French political analyst and sociologist Gilles Kepel. Learn about the complex relationship between the US and the Middle East with Katerina Dalacoura of the London School of Economics and Cambridge University Press author Fawaz A. Gerges. Enroll in a free seminar from RAND on emerging strategies to counter terrorism or protect emergency responders in the wake of September 11.

Accompanied by an introduction from Bruce Hoffman, vice president of external affairs and director of the Washington, D.C., office at RAND, this learning center gathers original content and reference materials to empower users to learn about--and learn from--the events of September 11, one year on.
